The WIPO-IPOS Award
Singapore, 26 August 2014 – The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) honoured seven outstanding Singaporean enterprises with the prestigious WIPO-IPOS IP Awards at a gala dinner this evening, organised in conjunction with Singapore’s premier international IP event, IP Week @ SG 2014.
Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Mr Teo Ser Luck, joined by Dr Francis Gurry, Director-General of WIPO, graced the event as Guest-of-Honour and presented the awards to the recipients.
In his speech, he said," For example, to address the problem of moisture being trapped in wooden guitars, Guitaring Passionately developed the world’s first portable guitar dehumidifier called the “KILN”, and has filed this idea for IP protection in Singapore and the United States. The KILN can be placed in a guitar and programmed to provide constant heating to remove moisture. To prevent overheating of the guitar, it also has built-in environment adapters to detect and trigger override mechanisms in the event of a temperature build-up. This is a significant improvement over earlier methods of removing moisture, which is by using silica gel, and demonstrates Guitaring Passionately’s commitment to providing quality user-experience and delivering cutting-edge innovation."

The Global Creative Director for Consumer Lifestyle, Philips Design, Mr Low Cheaw Hwei said: “It is great to see their zealous pursue to solve a rather niche problem and, despite their size with constrained resources, they have not lost focus to capture and invest to protect what is uniquely innovative in their solution. This attitude is commendable and deserves recognition."
